You had the ruff, now it's time for the smooth. After 'Witness (1 Hope)' comes the phenomenal 'Dreamy Days'. A strange and heady mixture of music hall swagger (not for nothing did Rodney Smith declare Ian Dury to be the pioneer of UK Rap during a recent interview), confessional lyrics, deep bass and welded-to-your-cortex catchiness, 'Dreamy Days' is set to take Mr Manuva even higher. The track was produced by Skillamanjaro, renowned for previous work with the Bury Crew and one of the hottest names in UK production. It also features the same team of string players who made 'Motion 5000' - from Manuva's last album - such a standout tune (and who have also ripped up recent live performances). As if this wasn't enough, remix duties are taken care of by a heavyweight team who span the range of vital, cutting-edge music being made in the UK today. First up is two-step supremo MJ Cole, who comes through with a blistering, bass-driven club workout which confirms his place (if it needed confirming) at the head of the UK Garage table. Next come Welsh psychedelic-nationalists the Super Furry Animals. Taking a slightly more leftfield route to their recent number one album, 'Rings Around Saturn,' SFA cook up a technoddic dubstyle where the trademark Roots vocals are twisted out of shape until they almost break. The last remix comes from Roots himself - a super lofi stabfest with a chorus which sounds like White Duke meets Outkast. The bonus track is blessed with the elegant title 'Fly Turd Fly'. It's here that Mr Manuva takes a moment to let the detractors, naysayers, pettifoggers and frauds know he's on to them. All over a queasy, skipping Part 2 beat. With a video courtesy of renowned commercials director Malcolm Venville (think the 'Size Matters' Renault Clio campaign) and the first hip hop album from the UK to trouble the Top Forty in well over a decade, this is the moment for the one man powerhouse to make dreams concrete...'
